About Dhinawan

Dhinawan(Michael Baker) is a descendant of the Gamillaroi Bigambul Tribes. A proud Aboriginal warrior Dhinawan demonstrates his pride in every performance: playing the didgeridoo, dancing and singing.

It was while living and working on Fraser Island as a guide to international tourist and schools that Dhinawan became student and teacher of his Culture.

Dhinawan has performed in many different schools, events, concerts and festivals such as the Woodford folk festival, the Multicultural day in Portsmouth (UK) and the Didgeridoo fest in Austria with Ganga Giri and kept travelling through Switzerland and Germany. While on their tour to Australia, Dhinawan also played with the Wailers and Michael Franti.

Dhinawan thrives in front of a live audience but it’s in his painting that he finds his passion. With the love of surfing, he combined his two favourites pastimes together and soon found himself painting aboriginal art on surfboards for people like Mick Fanning,Joel Parkinson and Kelly Slater.
Dhinawan has featured on TV many times; one documentary with Kelly Slater and Joel Parkinson featured in 55 different countries, a cultural dance show on Hot Source….

World travelled but well grounded,Dhinawan still teaches in schools passing on his culture to younger generation and is also often invited to open events such as the Quiksilver pro surfing competition, The Herb Festival or even to open new places such as the Byron community centre.

Now working in local schools Dhinawan wants to ensure Culture in his area is kept alive. Dhinawan offers workshop in schools, pre schools and universities and also educates children about the Native bush and ways of Life while on their bush walk and finishes the day with some Didgeridoo stories and Dreamtime songs. Dhhinawan has also developed a five weeks program which aims to increase
Indigenous students identity as they learn to dance and sing.

Yadaki (Didgeridoo) workshops can also be arranged as well as Dreamtime Story telling.
